BiblioTECH Version 8

A BiblioTECH Client computer cannot connect to the BiblioTECH Server

Overview :

A BiblioTECH Client computer can fail to communicate with a BiblioTECH Server for a number of reasons’ the following provides a checklist to follow which should identify the cause.

 

Prerequisites :

Windows Administrative level access to the Server and Client computers. 

BT8ping.exe          The BiblioTECH Server installer will install this utility into the server’s  {CommonData}\BiblioTECH\v8\Server\Master\Tools  folder.

 

Description :

NB       If the following does not identify the problem, contact BiblioTECH Support for further assistance.

  • Check the server computer …
    Ensure the server computer is running
    Ensure the server has network connectivity (esp static IP address)
    Ensure the server can PING other network devices.

     
  • Check the BiblioTECH services …
    Ensure that the BiblioTECH Server services are running on the server
       -  If NOT, start them.

 

  • Check that BiblioTECH is functioning …
    Start the BiblioTECH Client on the server computer and check operations
       -  If NOT connecting, check local network/firewall settings.

 

  • Check that a client computer can contact the BiblioTECH Server via the network …
    Check that the client computer can PING the BiblioTECH server by its IP address.
       -  If NOT, check local network

     
  • Check the BiblioTECH IP/port communications …
    Check BiblioTECH communications using BT8PING (refer below)
       -  If not, check local network/firewall settings.

     
  • Check the BiblioTECH client on another computer …
    Check BiblioTECH communications using BT8PING (refer below)
    Start the BiblioTECH Client and test each module

 

  • If BT8PING responds OK but the BiblioTECH Client does not connect
    Re-install the client on the client computer.

 BT8ping Utility

This utility can be used to check communications between a client computer and the BiblioTECH Server.

  • Copy the utility to the client.
  • Open a command window
  • Change directory to where the utility was copied
  • Type   bt8ping  BT8serverIPaddress

eg.   bt8ping  127.0.0.1

If the server is operating and can be reached, the response will be similar to

BT8ping : BiblioTECH Version 8 Server Communication Tester

Checking host 127.0.0.1 on port 16002

Key     : xxxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxxxx

BT Time : 17 Jul 2007, 11:50 

However, if the server is NOT operating or cannot be reached, the response will be similar to

BT8ping : BiblioTECH Version 8 Server Communication Tester

Checking host 127.0.0.1 on port 16002

Failed to connect ....
