Microsoft Vista - Setting an Application to run using Administrator Rights

Overview :

Even though you may be logged into Vista with using an administrative account, application will not necessarily run with administrative rights. You need to update the properties of the application’s shortcut.

Prerequisites :

Windows Administrative level access to the Server.

Description :

eg for the BiblioTECH Server Manager utility

Ensure you are logged into the Vista computer with Administrator privileges.

Locate the BiblioTECH Server Manager shortcut

Start à All Programs à BiblioTECH v8 à BiblioTECH Server Manager

Right-Click on the entry and select Properties ...

Click on Advanced ...

Tick the Run as Administrator box  then click on OK  ...

Click on the Apply button ...

You can only do this if you are logged in as an Administrator and will need to confirm (twice) that the changes you have requested are ok – click on Continue..

Now, whenever you start the application via this shortcut, Vista will ask if you want to allow the application to run. When acknowledged, the Application will start with administrative privileges.
